Itinerary

DAY 1: TANGIER – VOLUBILIS – MEKNES – FEZ

We will pick you up from your Riad/Hotel or meet with you up at the port of Tangier. We will go for a nice 3 days trip Tangier to Fez by first taking the highway, then through the national road with a nice drive at one of the most fertile plains in all Morocco. You will spot, as far as they eye can see, fields of sugar canes, wheat, barley, oranges…etc. Our drive will take us to the Roman Ruins of Volubilis. The archaeological site of Volubilis was founded in the 3 century AD covering an area of 42 hectares. The local tour guide of the site will unveil the mystery of the site and bring it alive to you.

Resume our journey to one of the four Imperial Capitals of Morocco, Meknes. It was built by the Sultan Moulay Ismail who chose as his main capital. We will stop by the Bab Mansour gate, then a drive through the high walls of the Royal Palace to the Granaries and Royal Stables. In the late evening, we will take the highway to Fez. Overnight

DAY 2: FEZ CITY TOUR – CHEFCHAOUEN

After breakfast in your hotel/Riad, you will spend the first half day exploring the hidden aspects of Fez with an expert local tour guide. Fez was founded by the Idrisid dynasty in 789 AD by Idriss I and then well developed by his son Idriss II. The half day city tour of Fez will include a walk through the narrow alleyways of the old Medina of Fez. Visit one of the oldest universities in the Islamic World Al Kariauine University, museums, the infamous traditional tanneries of Fez, the Golden Gates of the Royal Palace and much more. After lunch, we head to Chefchaouen driving the Rif Mountains. Overnight

DAY 3: CHEFCHAOUEN – TANGIER

After breakfast in your Riad, you will spend the first half day exploring the beautiful town of Chefchaouen. Chefchaouen is nestled at the feet of two mountains that have the shape of “Horns” to which the name of the town is derived. Walk through its clean and washed-blue painted alleyways to the popular Square Utta Lahmam. The Square gets very busy in the afternoon with tourists, particularly the cafes overlooking the Kasbah that was built by the former Alaouite Sultan Moulay Ismail and then turned into a prison by the Spanish in the 20th century. Chefchaouen is known for its beautiful and colourful shops selling small items for souvenirs with reasonable prices. At midday, we will drive back to Tangier through the Rif Mountains.
